Bubble Wrap Waffle - Review

Never heard of a bubble wrap waffle before? Let me tell you about them. I first came across a picture on Instagram that kick started my saliva glands and made me REALLY desperate to devour this deliciousness. I did some research into bubble wrap waffles and found that these egg waffles originated from Hong Kong as street food, yet there was a store in London - China Town - that opened in March and were selling bubble waffles with an array of inviting fillings. On my next visit to London I made sure I had time to pick myself up a waffle. The store itself "Bubble wrap" is super easy to find, a few stores down from the fourth iconic Chinese gate on Wardour Street. Despite being a small store with a minimal sized shop name you couldn't miss it because of the queues of eager customers waiting outside. Although the initial look at the queues may look daunting, I can assure you the wait is worth it. Depending what time you go in the day the queue may take longer, I'd advise going around 13:00 as the store opens at 12:30 so the initial rush is over and you’re there before everyone else turns up.
While queuing up you can watch the employers create the waffles which looks easy but I can imagine takes a lot of delicacy and skill. The waffle machines they use are not ordinarily shaped; instead they are spherical domes with bubble indents which create the bubble wrap effect.
The board to order from gives you so many options that you spend the whole time in the line deciding and changing your mind about what toppings to have on your waffle. They have two sections, one giving you the option to create your own with lists of the ice creams, toppings and sauces and the second suggesting some of their favourites.

I think it is definitely worth mentioning that these waffles do not seem overpriced as they use a lot of ingredients and are large enough to share or cheap enough to buy one for yourself if you're peckish and can't compromise toppings with anybody else. Likewise as the store is one of a kind, the prices could easily be a lot more expensive.
Overall taste wise, the ice cream that they use is very creamy and delicious and also accurately labelled - the strawberry cheesecake ice cream tasted exactly like a cheesecake! Meanwhile the toppings are equally as tasty with fresh fruit and yummy chocolate including varieties such as KitKat, Oreo, After Eight or white chocolate pieces. The waffle is also an appetising sweet egg mixture; the 'bubbles' were a nice mix of being waffle-filled and airiness which doesn’t make the waffle feel heavy or sickly at all. The bubbles easily break off to create perfect sized waffle pieces to eat and it makes eating the waffle a much less messy experience.
The staff in the shop were all friendly and professional at making these succulent waffles to a good quality, repeatedly. While also making it look super aesthetically pleasing for when customers leave the store and spam social media with their waffle pictures that caught my eye in the beginning.
Overall, I would highly recommend that if anyone is planning a visit to London that they go to Bubble Wrap to try these waffles. The store is a great asset to China Town.
